Disputed lead, headed and raced in second 4f out, ridden and led 1f out, ran on well (trainer's rep could offer no explanation for the apparent improvement in form) (op 16/1)
Took keen hold, in touch with leaders, ridden and switched right 1f out, hung right but disputing second final 110yds, kept on (jockey said gelding hung right-handed in the final furlong) (op 9/4)
Disputed lead, headed and prominent 4f out, ridden under 2f out, keeping on but no chance with winner when short of room and hampered final 110yds, weakened towards finish (op 33/1)
Awkward start, slowly into stride, in rear, pushed along over 1f out, ridden and kept on final furlong, never near to challenge (an inquiry was held into running and riding which was slowly away, a fact jockey reported at scales, and as a result ridden at the rear of the field; on turning in, under tender handling, gelding proceeded to make good progress through the field to finish seventh, beaten by 4 1/2 lengths; jockey stated that his instructions went out of the window once gelding was slowly away and that his main aim thereafter was to get gelding back into a rhythm and attached to main field; he continued that having turned in he wanted to get gelding balanced before asking for more vigorous effort, which he did 3/4f out; rider felt that he had asked gelding for all reasonable and permissible measures having taken into account the start; his explanation was noted) (op 9/1)
