Mid-division, steady progress from 4 out, ridden to challenge soon after last, tight for room and bumped on reaching elbow, kept on with every chance, just held (op 10/1)
Held up, short-lived effort after 3 out (jockey said, regarding the running and riding, his instructions were to drop the gelding in and get settled as he has a history of racing keenly. his instructions were to get the gelding jumping and run on up the home straight to finish in the best possible position. he stated that he felt the other runners had gone quickly up front and the gelding had jumped carefully over the first few fences, resulting in him becoming outpaced. he further stated that the field had slowed turning into the back straight which allowed him to travel better and make up ground. he added the tempo had quickened again turning into the home straight, whereupon the gelding had become outpaced. he further added the gelding had taken a blow between the third and second-last fence before getting a second wind and running on one-pace after jumping the final fence. the trainer stated that the ride accorded with his instructions and was satisfied with the ride given, adding the gelding would prefer a faster surface) (op 33/1)
