Robbie Wilders' play of the day at Thirsk
Dark Jedi
2.45 Thirsk
Dark Jedi is the joint topweight in this field and drops to a Class 5 for the first time (2.45).
The 2023 season was one of regression for Dark Jedi. He began the campaign by finishing sixth off a mark of 99 in the Queen’s Cup but, winless since, he has fallen to just 77. It appears obvious the eight-year-old is past his best, but that does not preclude him from winning here, with plenty of Tim Easterby’s horses going well first time out this term.
The surface at Thirsk will be on the slow side and that looks a plus for Dark Jedi, given three of his top five Racing Post Ratings have come over 1m6f (best one came on heavy going at Doncaster). With first-time-out RPRs of 94, 89 and 96 over the last three seasons, Dark Jedi must have every chance of being competitive in this grade.
