Robbie Wilders' play of the day at Newmarket

Arrest

3.35 Newmarket

Hamish has opened up at a shade of odds-on in several places and will carry the cash of plenty, but I can't have the disparity in prices between him and Arrest, while Giavellotto isn't ruled out either in a warmer race than the odds suggest.

I'm always weary of horses running career bests later in life and that's what the eight-year-old Hamish did in the Coronation Cup last time. The time of that race was nothing special and I'm sure we're yet to see the best of Arrest, whose connections will have welcomed the significant rain Newmarket took on Tuesday.

In fairness so will Hamish's, but Arrest comes here fresh from a good effort in the Ormonde Stakes two months ago behind Point Lonsdale when conditions were much quicker than he wants, and I'm sure he's been campaigned with the second half of the season in mind.

Given he's dropping in distance to 1m4f and stays the St Leger trip, it wouldn't surprise me if we saw a change to front-running from Arrest, who looked so good when ridden that way in the Geoffrey Freer last term.
