Robbie Wilders' play of the day at Newcastle
Get Shirty
This four-runner heat has to be the weakest race Get Shirty has contested since he joined David O'Meara in August 2021.
Like many of O'Meara's high-class handicappers, Get Shirty's mark has fluctuated significantly in recent years. He began the 2022 campaign with a win off 91 and ended it as a Group-class stayer rated 110.
It has been a quiet enough year for Get Shirty, but he's down to 87 and proved he wasn't gone at the game with an excellent fourth off 90 in the Ascot Stakes behind Pledgeofallegiance in the summer.
Seen only three times since, Get Shirty caught the eye when a plugging-on fourth over an inadequate 1m4½f in a decent race at this track last month after two months off, just lacking a kick at the finish as a lack of race sharpness probably told.
O'Meara is superb at keeping these old boys sweet and Get Shirty can capitalise on an outstanding opportunity. The fact all three of his rivals have at least something to recommend them should ensure the topweight is a backable price.
