Robbie Wilders' play of the day at Lingfield

Scylla

5.05 Lingfield

Lightly raced horses with good pedigrees often clean up in low-grade staying handicaps and one such runner stands out in the 2m amateur jockeys' contest at Lingfield (5.05).

That is the Charlie Fellowes-trained Scylla, a daughter of Ulysses whose dam was a big improver in handicaps at four and ended up running in Listed company. Progeny of Ulysses are renowned for stepping forward with age and this filly can follow suit on her eighth start.

That is not to say Scylla will get anywhere near Listed level like her dam did, but she arrives with a progressive profile after recording a smooth success on the turf course here in July.

Strong in the market on her return at Nottingham in May, Scylla failed to justify the support and may have needed it, but first-time cheekpieces appeared to make a real difference on her latest outing and the aid is retained here.

She has a nice draw in stall two for a prominent racer and is assisted by 3lb claimer Jack Nicholls in the saddle. Nicholls is a healthy 20 per cent over the last five seasons (£23.75 level-stakes profit) and can be considered a positive jockey booking. There is no reason to think she won't take to the all-weather.
