Robbie Wilders' play of the day at Galway
Rouge Sellier
It is always worth noting when Sir Mark Prescott sends one to Ireland and Rouge Sellier is a tempting proposition with champion jockey Colin Keane up in the Listed Oyster Stakes at Galway. Keane has ridden the winner of this race for three of the past five seasons and can keep up the good work.
Since 2004, Prescott has saddled 58 runners in Ireland and won with 20 of them for a rock-solid 34 per cent strike-rate. The trainer might be without a winner over there since 2019, but Rouge Sellier will be only his fourth representative since and she looks the one to beat.
Rouge Sellier burst on to the scene in July with an eased-down 15-length victory in a Kempton novice, benefitting from a big step up in trip, wind surgery and a first-time hood on her seasonal debut. That was a truly run race and she thrived for it.
So impressive was that performance that Rouge Sellier was sent off second favourite for the Glasgow Stakes next time, despite having the best part of a stone to find with three of the runners including Kalpana, who ran out a smooth winner of that steadily run affair.
Kalpana gave that form a big boost with a runaway success in the Group 3 September Stakes on Saturday and Rouge Sellier simply wasn't seen to best effect in the Glasgow, unsurprisingly lacking the same change of gear after being held up behind one who is destined for the top.
There is nothing of Kalpana's calibre in the Oyster and the Glasgow might have come soon enough for Rouge Sellier anyway, as her big performance at Kempton was only 15 days earlier.
The selection is back following a 53-day break and looks the type to enjoy a good autumn, while there should be plenty more to come after only four runs.
