Richard Birch's play of the day at Thirsk
Wondrous Ways
2.15 Thirsk
Wondrous Ways, beaten a nose at 11-1 at Catterick last month, takes the eye in division one of the 6f nursery (2.15).
The Ollie Pears-trained filly produced a storming late challenge on good to firm ground from well off the pace that day, and would have won in another stride. Her form figures read 132 since she graduated to handicaps and there is definitely more to come from her.
An easier surface at Thirsk will not inconvenience Wondrous Ways as she won at Catterick in July on soft going.
Local trainer Pears resisted the temptation to send Wondrous Ways to Brighton for a decent opportunity soon after her latest effort and that patience can pay dividends much closer to home.
Perfidia, who was by no means disgraced at 40-1 behind Green Icon at Haydock last time, could outrun likely decent odds now that Tim Easterby drops him in trip and fits cheekpieces for the first time off a 3lb lower mark.
