Richard Birch's play of the day at Southwell
Safe Destination
Joe Tizzard is the leading trainer at Plumpton this season with five winners from just 12 runners for a strike-rate of 42 per cent.
Travel problems resulting from the aftermath of Storm Darragh recently denied Safe Destination a crack at a valuable 0-110 prize at Huntingdon.
That was a pity as I had backed him at 6-1 overnight and fully expected the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained six-year-old to win off his low weight.
It’s a different set-up in the 3m½f handicap chase (11.52) at Southwell as Safe Destination carries more weight in a 0-100, but I still fancy him strongly.
Winner of three of his nine races over fences, he scored with plenty in hand off 89 at Market Rasen in September.
In effect, Safe Destination can compete off the same mark when the 7lb claim of his rider, Toby McCain-Mitchell, is factored into the equation.
He should enjoy the ground at Southwell and can prove too strong for Mistymal.
