Richard Birch's play of the day at Chepstow
Louis Treize
5.20 Chepstow
Louis Treize is by no means straightforward but he loves Chepstow and produced his best effort of the year there last time out when a head second to Mokaatil.
Archie Young, who was partnering the eight-year-old for the first time, got a great tune out of Louis Treize. Backed to 6-1 from 16-1, he broke better than is often the case and was still tanking a furlong out.
Finally shaken up well inside the final furlong, Louis Treize looked sure to score when hitting the front but was worried out of the winner’s enclosure by Mokaatil in the final two strides.
That was a race confined to apprentices and Young couldn’t claim. He can take 5lb off Louis Treize this time in Chepstow’s 6f handicap (5.20), and my money will be firmly down.
