Richard Birch's play of the day at Brighton
Roundabout Silver
2.20 Brighton
Let’s hope that the well-treated Roundabout Silver, who relishes soft ground, can do something similar to Secret Handsheikh's effort here last month in the mile handicap (2.20).
The Simon Dow-trained five-year-old has dropped to a career-low mark of 50 following six defeats this year and is now 8lb below the rating he won off at Bath last August.
By no means disgraced when fifth of eight behind Hello Cotai at Epsom in July, Roundabout Silver was nibbled at in the market before being withdrawn from a similar race at Windsor last Monday on account of unsuitably fast ground.
Most of Roundabout Silver’s best form, including that Bath success, has been with significant cut underfoot.
He won over course and distance off 11lb higher at this meeting two years ago and could run riot if getting anywhere near the level of such a performance off his highly attractive mark.
His stable hit top form towards the end of last month, which offers encouragement that Roundabout Silver will return to his best.
