Phill Anderson's play of the day at Catterick
The Resdev Way
3.25 Catterick
Previous course winner, The Resdev Way, might be worth chancing in the 2m handicap at Catterick. Remarkably, he’s having his 112th start on Tuesday but shaped like he was ready to score again in a couple of all-weather starts in January.
It was his first start for this yard when runner-up (beaten a length) at Wolverhampton and he was beaten just three-quarters of a length when hitting the crossbar again at Lingfield last time.
That’s an effort worth marking up having run wide off the tight home bend and he also met a bit of trouble in running at the furlong pole. The 1m4f trip that time is probably his absolute minimum, so it was no surprise to see him stay on strongly all the way to the line.
He’s been patiently ridden in his two runs for new connections and such tactics could pay off again with a few front runners in this field, which should ensure there’s an honest gallop. Joanna Mason is back on board, a jockey that is enjoying a good season with a 13 per cent strike-rate and backing all of her rides in 2024 to a £1 level-stake would have returned a profit of £19.89.
A 193-day absence is the main concern, but he was having his first start for more than four months when debuting for this yard in January. If they have him ready to roll again this time, he could be the one to side with operating from a handicap mark of just 47.
