James Hill's play of the day at Southwell
Nevendon
The best jumps action takes place at Warwick, although the best betting opportunities in that sphere are in the East Midlands at Southwell where, unbelievably with all this rain we've had, the ground is still good to firm in places.
The opening 2m handicap chase is a good opportunity for Nevendon to get off the mark over fences. The Alexandra Dunn-trained seven-year-old put up his best effort yet over fences when second at Plumpton last time.
You can upgrade Nevendon's effort given he got hampered on a few occasions, notably three from home. He did well to finish on the heels of the winner, Alien Storm, as the pair pulled 16 lengths clear of the rest. They weren't a bad bunch in behind either, with two of those having been rated 124 and 116 over hurdles. It was a race run at a decent gallop and he can race off the same mark here.
Nevendon will also be dropping in grade for this assignment and with the Dunn yard in decent nick (25 per cent strike-rate in September), it looks a good opportunity.
