Graeme Rodway's play of the day at Kempton

Zoran
8.00 Kempton

The best bet of the evening is Zoran, who was beaten just a head into second off a 1lb higher mark over course and distance in November and can go one better in the 2m handicap.

Zoran was an unfancied 50-1 chance for that stronger 0-90 event but almost sprang a surprise. He was beaten only by subsequent winner Duke Of Oxford in a race from which the sixth, eighth and 12th have also won four times between them since. It looks strong form.

The selection was disappointing when only tenth back over course and distance in December, but bounced back to form when beaten just a length and a half into fifth on his next outing at Lingfield in February. That is another race that has worked out well as the winner and fourth went on to win three times between them on their next three starts.

Zoran’s inconsistency was in evidence again at Wolverhampton last month, never getting competitive when only fifth of eight after a slow start. That was over 1m6f and the return to 2m at a track where he has run so well before, may bring another upturn in form.

Trainer Emma Lavelle might be better known for her jumpers, but she has three winners, three seconds and a third from 12 runners on Kempton’s Polytrack in recent years and her horses clearly seem to like it here. It’s worth taking a chance on Zoran improving her record.
