Graeme Rodway's play of the day at Kempton
Spirit Lead Me
5.00 Kempton
2pts win
After weeks without any rain some areas in Britain were hit with snow on Tuesday and that led to Southwell’s Tapeta meeting being cancelled. Let’s hope the Polytrack at Kempton doesn’t suffer the same fate on Wednesday as two of the jumps meetings hold inspections.
Fortunately Kempton doesn't expect any issues and it is worth looking there for the bulk of the bets, starting in the Unibet – Lets Talk About Safer Gambling Nursery Handicap (5.00).
Wild Nature is going to be a warm favourite for Godolphin and Charlie Appleby, who has an outstanding record at Kempton. However, the Kingman gelding is still yet to run on anything other than turf and he finished last of ten when sent off the 6-5 favourite at Doncaster last month.
He was hampered early and maybe soft ground didn’t suit, so there are possible excuses, but he has now been beaten at 3-1 or shorter on all four starts and isn’t one to have confidence in.
It is worth taking him on with proven all-weather winner Spirit Lead Me, who was successful over course and distance last month and followed up over 7f at Wolverhampton next time out.
He is now 20lb higher than for his first win, but was third off this mark over 7f at this course two weeks ago and shaped like he might need a return to a mile. That proved the rating isn’t beyond him and he can go well up in trip with Oisin Murphy taking over from Finley Marsh.
