Graeme Rodway's play of the day at Hereford
Ballinoulart
This 2m5f handicap chase doesn’t look a strong race and it’s worth taking a chance on Ballinoulart, who ran his best race since joining David Dennis at Warwick on his last start.
Ballinoulart didn’t always jump with fluency that day, but he kept on strongly for pressure to finish fourth, just under 12 lengths behind winner Smurfette. The horse he left behind in fifth, Abaya Du Mathan, gave the form a solid look when running well at Southwell next time out.
The selection will need to improve again on that run to be competitive here, but there is little doubt that was a hint there may be better to come after just three starts for the Dennis yard, and Ballinoulart is well treated on the pick of his form for previous trainer Alastair Ralph.
Ralph saddled Ballinoulart to finish twice runner-up at this track from just three starts, including when recording an equal career-best Racing Post Rating over course and distance in November off a BHA mark 10lb higher than this. A reproduction of that should be enough.
