Graeme Rodway's play of the day at Chester
Tasmanian Legend
3.25 Chester
Rain is in the forecast at Chester and conditions are already softer there than at Sandown. With that in mind it’s worth taking a chance on Tasmanian Legend in the 1m2½f handicap as, while he has no turf form, his half-brother acted on soft ground.
The sibling in question is Wholelotafun, who has three wins, three seconds and three thirds from just 21 outings on turf and is a soft-ground winner. That gives hope that Tasmanian Legend can transfer his smart all-weather form to soft turf at Chester.
The three-year-old won three of his first four starts for Alice Haynes on Tapeta at Newcastle and Wolverhampton and the latter is a sharp left-handed circuit, just like this course.
He was unable to complete a Wolverhampton hat-trick off this mark on his latest start, but maybe he was feeling the effects of his busy period and Haynes has given him 74 days off subsequently. That lends weight to my hunch that he may have been over the top there.
Tasmanian Legend recorded his first win following a 97-day break, so can evidently go well fresh and might be capable of resuming his progress from a good draw near the inside in stall three.
