Fillies boast strength in depth with Lake Victoria in pole position for lucrative Classic run

The European Two-Year-Old Classifications present a tale of contrasts, with a strong list of fillies but a somewhat moderate champion among the colts.

Charlie Appleby’s Shadow Of Light sits at the top of the pile, having been awarded a rating of 120 for his narrow victory over Expanded (118) in the Dewhurst Stakes. That is the joint-lowest mark for a two-year-old champion since Belardo ten years ago and it wouldn’t put him in the top 30 juveniles this century. Racing Post Ratings also put him top, albeit with an even more modest mark of 117.
