Will Nashwa head to Epsom? Connections undecided despite Newbury win
The 2022 Flat season is in full swing after the first two Classics, the 2,000 Guineas and 1,000 Guineas.
Attention now turns towards Epsom with the Cazoo Derby and Oaks next month and market movers come thick and fast as the key Classic trials continue to be run. Our Classic Clues series has you covered.
Here's a recap of the action on Saturday and how it has impacted the Classic betting, while we mark your card with key names to note on Sunday.
Saturday round-up: Nashwa scores at Newbury
After Emily Upjohn's demolition job in the Musidora Stakes at York on Wednesday, the Gosdens are now potentially going to be doubly represented in the Oaks after Nashwa's victory on Saturday.
Nashwa, a comfortable winner on her reappearance, confirmed her Classic credentials with success in the Haras de Bouquetot Fillies' Trial Stakes at Newbury.
The daughter of Frankel made rapid headway from the rear under Hollie Doyle before putting daylight between herself and her rivals.
Nashwa was cut to 5-1 (from 12) with William Hill and is now third favourite for the Epsom Classic on June 3.
What they say
Imad Alsagar, owner of Nashwa
"She's entered in the Oaks and the French Oaks and if we go a mile and a half we're going into the unknown, but we're not making any decisions yet."
Market movers
Cazoo Oaks
Nashwa 5-1 (from 12, William Hill)
Emily Upjohn 11-10 (from 11-8, William Hill)
All eyes on . . . the French Guineas
Charlie Appleby dominated the 2,000 Guineas with Coroebus leading home Native Trail and the Godolphin trainer could add the French version to his haul with Modern Games.
The son of Dubawi took the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf on his final start as a juvenile and sets the standard in the Emirates Poule d'Essai des Poulains (2.55) at Longchamp.
While immediate attention is on Sunday's contest, he could be one to turn up in the Prix du Jockey Club later in the year, while 1,000 Guineas winner Cachet bids for a Classic double in the Emirates Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (2.15).
