Which of Charlie Appleby's leading juveniles should you look out for this year?

Trainer Charlie Appleby has had his team of juveniles for Godolphin in red-hot form this season, helped by the fact he has been able to gallop his horses on the grass at his Moulton Paddocks base.

With many of the key two-year-old races yet to be run this term, we've taken a look at some of Appleby's leading juveniles for 2022 who could be set to shine later this year.

Highbank
Kingman - Bristol Bay

This son of Kingman came from last to first to land a 7f maiden at Newmarket last month, impressing jockey Jack Mitchell who said it was like "driving a Ferrari". Victory earned him a quote of 20-1 for 2,000 Guineas after beating stablemate Bold Act, who won next time out.

Highbank is set for a marked step up in class for the rest of the season and holds entries in the Champagne, Royal Lodge and Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes, for which he is just 8-1 with Paddy Power.

Dubawi - Really Special

A regally bred homebred and a half-brother to multiple Group 1 winner Wild Illusion. He showed he has class when an easy winner on debut under James Doyle in a 7f maiden earlier this month.

Such is the regard that he is held, he will be pitched into Group company on his next start in the Acomb Stakes at York on Wednesday, and is a 16-1 chance for the Dewhurst Stakes in October.

Teofilo - Emirates Rewards

One of the standout Godolphin juveniles of the season so far, Naval Power is unbeaten in three starts, which started with a narrow success at Yarmouth in late May.

However, he really stepped up on his next two starts, winning with ease in a 7f Leicester novice before a scintillating victory in the Listed Pat Eddery Stakes at Ascot last month, winning by six and a half lengths.

There is no doubt he will be one of the leading hopes among Appleby's juvenile team for the rest of the year and he holds an entry in Saturday's Solario Stakes at Sandown (2.35), while he is already the 4-1 second favourite for the Darley Dewhurst Stakes.

Noble Style
Kingman - Eartha Kitt

Like many of Appleby's juveniles, he is bred for success and looked to be one of the trainer's leading Royal Ascot hopes following his impressive debut win at the Berkshire track in May, but was ruled out of the Coventry Stakes late on due to a setback.

However, he returned in good heart with a game win in a 6f Newmarket novice late last month in which he beat Mill Stream – one of the leading contenders for the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York's Ebor meeting.

Noble Style could similarly be seen on the Knavesmire this week in the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Gimcrack Stakes (3.00) on Friday, and given the speed he has shown on the track he could be Godolphin's main hope for the Middle Park Stakes later this season.

Mysterious Night
Dark Angel - Mistrusting

One of Appleby's busiest two-year-olds but one who suffered a rare defeat on his first outing, he is also the trainer's most recent Group-winning juvenile having justified odds-on favouritism when winning the Prix Francois Boutin at Deauville on Sunday.

After rectifying his narrow debut defeat when off the mark at Newbury in June, he was placed in both the July Stakes and Vintage Stakes across the Summer before his success in France.

While he may be more exposed than some of his juvenile counterparts, he is already a proven Group-race performer and could be a dark horse in the top two-year-old contests this autumn.

Dubawi - Dane Street

A 700,000gns son of Dubawi, Victory Dance has been kept busy since making a winning debut by a head on the July course and was only narrowly beaten when sent off favourite for the Group 2 Superlative Stakes last month.

He made up for that mishap with an authoritative win in the Listed Denford Stakes at Newbury on Saturday and he holds the usual top-class juvenile entries his stablemates do towards the end of the season.

However, he could be Appleby's representative in the National Stakes at the Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend – a race the trainer has won for the last two years with Pinatubo and Native Trail.
