What's on this week: Classic clues at York before Palace Pier takes centre stage
Monday
It is a busier Monday than usual with some classy evening action on offer, with the highlight in Britain the Listed Royal Windsor Stakes at Windsor (6.30) over a mile.
It features an intriguing clash between one-time Lincoln fancy Brentford Hope, who remains highly unexposed, and the globetrotting eight-year-old Stormy Antarctic, who showed his wellbeing when a good second in a Listed race at Kempton on his reappearance.
The once high-class Samcro is a fascinating runner in the Grade 3 An Riocht Chase at Killarney (6.40) ahead of his summer jumping campaign in a bid to refind his sparkle, while 2020 Champion Hurdle third Darver Star bids to get his own career back on track in the 2m4f hurdle (5.10).
There is also an evening jumps card from Southwell, while the afternoon action comes from Ffos Las, Catterick and Lingfield.
Tuesday
Another bumper day in terms of quantity with no less than seven meetings across Britain and Ireland. Last year's Derby third Amhran Na Bhfiann is an intriguing runner as he steps up to 1m6f for the first time at Killarney (8.15), aiming to make it two wins on the bounce following his comeback victory.
Beverley is the pick of the afternoon action where Zihaam looks to back up his recent course-and-distance success in the 1m½f handicap (3.15), while Roscommon, Sedgefield and Chepstow – providing it passes an inspection on Monday morning – also stage afternoon cards.
As well as Killarney, there are two evening Flat cards at Wetherby and Ayr.
Wednesday
The first day of York's Dante meeting gets under way and signals the beginning of three days of top-class action on the Knavesmire. The feature race of the day is the Group 2 Duke of York Clipper Logistics Stakes (2.40), where last year's July Cup hero Oxted is poised for a clash with the likes of Summerghand, Art Power and Brando.
Classic clues for the Cazoo Oaks will also be on offer in the Musidora Stakes (3.10). Teona and Noon Star feature prominently in the market for the Oaks and look set to clash in a high-class renewal of the 1m2½f Group 3, while there are also some competitive handicaps on the card.
The ITV4 cameras will also show the 2m2½f handicap hurdle (2.25) at Newton Abbot, while there is also an afternoon jumps card at Worcester.
There are three meetings to have a poke at in the evening with Dundalk, Perth and Bath all staging seven-race cards.
Thursday
The second day of the Dante meeting features the headline race of the meeting, the Group 2 Dante Stakes (3.10) – one of the key and final trials for the Cazoo Derby.
Named after the Northern-based horse who landed the Epsom Classic in 1945, this year's race is set to see High Definition – a notable absentee from Lingfield's Derby Trial – face the likes of Group 1-winning juvenile Gear Up and Sandown Classic Trial winner Alenquer.
The Middleton Stakes (2.10) has an illustrious roll of honour and it could mark the return of Irish Oaks second Cayenne Pepper, who endured a nightmare run in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf last November.
There are two competitive cards from Perth and Salisbury in the afternoon, while Clonmel, Fontwell and Newmarket provide plenty of evening action.
Friday
The Dante Meeting concludes with the older top-class stayers on show in the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup (3.10). Sir Ron Priestley has been in fantastic form since returning from injury and is likely to be a warm favourite to add another success at this level to his haul following his victory in the Jockey Club Stakes on 2,000 Guineas day.
The regally bred Snow Lantern may step up to Pattern company for the first time in the Listed Oaks Farm Stables Fillies' Stakes (2.10), while the Listed Marygate Fillies' Stakes (1.40) could unearth some Royal Ascot clues for speedy juvenile fillies.
Newmarket, Newbury and Leopardstown stage Flat afternoon cards before a busy evening with Aintree, Hamilton and Kilbeggan all in action.
Saturday
The high-class action switches from York to Newbury where it is Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes day, with the mile Group 1 (3.35) the highlight.
Palace Pier, the star three-year-old miler from last year, is the strong favourite to add a third Group 1 to his haul and looked better than ever when winning on his reappearance at Sandown last month. Lope Y Fernandez and shock Breeders' Cup Mile winner Order Of Australia could headline the Aidan O'Brien team to take him on.
The Group 3 Al Rayyan Stakes (2.25) is the pick of the under card, while three-year-old clues will once again be on offer in the Fillies' Trial (4.10), and the 6f Carnarvon Stakes (1.50). The ITV cameras will also take in two Listed contests – the Fairway Stakes (2.05) and King Charles II Stakes (2.40) – from Newmarket.
Thirsk, Bangor and Navan also stage afternoon cards, while there are evening meetings from Doncaster and Uttoxeter.
Sunday
It is a quiet day on the racing front with Ripon and Stratford staging the action in Britain, while the Irish fare comes from Naas and Wexford.
In France, the Poule d'Essai des Poulains and Poule d'Essai des Pouliches – the French versions of the 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas – take place at Longchamp. British 2,000 Guineas winner Poetic Flare and Dewhurst Stakes hero St Mark's Basilica could take each other on in the first French Classic of 2021.
