Ed Chamberlin is relishing the extraordinary marathon of racing coverage on ITV4 on Saturday, with the channel's programming taking in a mammoth 20 races and culminating in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

ITV4 will broadcast for more than ten hours, starting with the best domestic action in Britain and Ireland. The afternoon coverage, beginning at 12.25pm and finishing at 3.30pm, will feature ten races from Wincanton, Aintree and Doncaster, as well as the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal (2.32).

After a short ten-minute break, which will feature a look back at The Indoor League, a 1970s pub games competition series, on World of Sport, the coverage then switches to Keeneland from 3.40pm, with nine Grade 1s featuring the Breeders' Cup Turf, Mile and Classic before the curtain comes down at 10.30pm.

Chamberlin will front all the coverage from a hub at Wincanton, as on Friday when ITV Racing's schedule comprised 12 races from Exeter, Down Royal and Keeneland.

"We've never done anything like this before over two days and we're really looking forward to it; we'll be well prepared," he said.

"We've got the great NBC feed for race coverage, while Oli Bell is out in the US doing some marvellous features and we're going to have Adele Mulrennan, Mark Johnson and Jason Weaver as experts in the studio too. We're well armed.

"There's something for everyone. I'm thrilled we're able to be at, and show, Wincanton as it's my local track – I was born nearby in Shepton Mallet – while we'd never shown the Haldon Gold Cup before. I studied at Exeter University and always went to that, it was a great occasion with some brilliant winners."

Referring to the Haldon Gold Cup being moved to a Friday from its traditional Tuesday slot, he continued: "It's fantastic they've brought those two West Country meetings together as we love to do coverage for newer tracks on the channel.

"It's great we could show Down Royal as Irish racing is so important to our coverage, and we shouldn't forget Doncaster and Aintree too."

Saturday's feast will conclude with the Breeders' Cup Classic (9.40), in which the world's highest-rated racehorse Flightline will bid to maintain his unbeaten record and cap off a stunning year.

The John Sadler-trained four-year-old has won his three top-level triumphs by a staggering 37 lengths combined, and Chamberlin hopes the coverage will be able to showcase his remarkable talents to a wider audience.

"That's the challenge, to get Flightline into people's conscience," he said. "Most of our viewers may have never heard of him, but we'll want to explain just how good he is and how seismic 9.40 on Saturday evening could be.

"It's only a four-hour time difference, which means it won't be as late as Del Mar was last year, and we can showcase how great a race it's going to be, as there certainly will not be any pushovers against Flightline. It's going to be lots of fun as it builds to a serious but great crescendo."

Britain and Ireland are strongly represented at Keeneland and Chamberlin hopes star sprinter Highfield Princess can win on the global stage in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.

"She's been the story of the season," he said. "It's been so good for [owner-breeder] John Fairley and what she's gone on and achieved has been extraordinary.

"There are lots of other angles too, like Charlie Appleby's brilliant season, Hollie Doyle riding leading hopes and Nashwa taking on Above The Curve, which looks a belter.

"And with The Platinum Queen, Middleham Park Racing have shown just what can be achieved with not a lot of money. All in all, there's lots to look forward to."
