Irish dominance of the Cesarewitch market is right - but this 33-1 chance is capable of a bold showing
Saturday's Cesarewitch Handicap from Newmarket dates back to 1839, so it is rather surprising that Aaim To Prosper became the only horse to win the race twice in 2012, illustrating the historic task facing the Emmet Mullins-trained The Shunter in attempting to go back-to-back from a 5lb higher mark 12 months on.
Plenty of the previous winners are better known for their exploits over hurdles and, given Ireland's current dominance in that sphere, it has translated into five of the last six winners being trained in Ireland.
Understandably, the three horses vying for favouritism in the ante-post market on this occasion are all Irish-trained, namely Sea Of Sands (Willie Mullins), Jacovec Cavern (Emmet Mullins) and Sixandahalf (Gavin Cromwell).
