There is a lovely sense of deja vu about this season's Clarence House Chase. Shishkin and Energumene served up one of the races of the season in the 2022 running and the Willie Mullins-trained chaser will seek redemption three years on against another Seven Barrows stalwart who has seamlessly adopted the Shishkin role.

Bookmakers found it difficult to separate Shishkin and Energumene that day. According to the early market at least, Energumene has more on his plate to cope with Jonbon.

It is increasingly difficult to criticise Jonbon and his doubters (I have been one in the past) were silenced yet again with his Tingle Creek romp. Such criticism predominantly surrounds Jonbon's mixed Cheltenham record (2-5). Elsewhere he is unrivalled (14-14), and his Tingle Creek effort received a boost when tailed-off fourth Solness brushed aside Gaelic Warrior at Leopardstown over Christmas.
