There is a bloated programme for staying chasers at this time of year given the pool of horses and that is contributing towards a general decline in field sizes for races like the Coral Gold Cup.

Many bookmakers to their credit, though, are offering punters four places at a quarter the odds despite the fact a maximum field of 16 seems unlikely.
