'We don't know Baaeed's ceiling' - Michael Hills stirred by Shadwell star

Former Derby and King George-winning jockey Michael Hills knows a thing or two about riding a top-class horse and believes unbeaten superstar Baaeed has every chance of beating Palace Pier in next month’s Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot.

Hills occasionally rides the William Haggas-trained colt at home, including last Sunday in a canter up Warren Hill in front of a healthy crowd on Newmarket Open Weekend, and describes the Prix du Moulin winner as “an absolute gentleman”.

The Shadwell Estate-owned three-year-old extended his unbeaten record to five at Longchamp and Hills reports him in rude health before a tantalising clash with five-time top-level winner Palace Pier in the £1.1 million contest on Qipco British Champions Day on October 16.
