Warwick Q&A: what racegoers can expect at the pilot scheme on Monday
Racegoers are allowed back on a British track for just the second time since March at Warwick on Monday. But it will be a very different racecourse experience to the one enjoyed pre-lockdown for the projected 474 in attendance. Here is what spectators should expect.
Arriving at the racecourse
To enter the course racegoers will need to produce an e-barcode. Physical tickets have not been issued and the whole meeting is advance sales only. Attendees have to have their temperature taken, must wear a facemask and postcodes will be checked to make sure no-one has travelled from an area of local lockdown.
How the course will look
The racecourse has been divided into two zones – green and amber. The traditional owners' car park (Hampton Street) forms part of the green zone – restricted to jockeys, trainers and officials – with everyone parking in the middle of the course. The amber zone will accommodate members and owners, with clear barriers between zones and no crossing between zones. Social distancing and one-way systems will be in operation.
Placing a bet
With on-course bookmakers and the on-site William Hill and BritBet branches open, punters will have plenty of options. The site is operating as a cashless venue, although on-course bookmakers will accept cash.
Food and drink
There will be a number of food and drink outlets operating, again with one-way systems in place as well as order and collection points.
Pre-parade and parade ring access
The pre-parade and parade rings are part of the track’s ‘green zone’, which can be accessed only by raceday workers. But racegoers will be able to watch the horses parade from behind crowd barriers.
The code of conduct
Warwick is asking all racegoers to familiarise themselves with the track’s code of conduct, and adhere to it when attending. It can be read on Warwick’s website.
