Travellers asked to trash village after neighbour falls out with Ramsdens

Neighbourly disputes are not uncommon in our green and pleasant land, but one woman took her annoyance to a new level after falling out with local residents including former trainer Lynda Ramsden and her husband Jack.
Linda Watson invited travellers to set up on her land in Kirtling, near Newmarket, on the promise they do everything they could to trash the village, having grown frustrated at the council’s refusal to allow her to build temporary accommodation on her two-and-a-half acre plot and the lack of support she received from fellow villagers.
Unsurprisingly, after Watson advertised that the land was free to live on travellers started turning up in their droves and queuing outside the gates of her Coedendderw Stud, which she has run as a rehabilitation centre for horses for the past seven years.
Watson has since sold the £350,000 plot to an undisclosed buyer.
The Ramsdens were unavailable for comment.
Unlikely face for Cheltenham
The Centaur arena at Cheltenham is famous for its lively booze-fuelled atmosphere during the festival, the floor slick with Guinness and the air perfumed by eau de burger van.
So it is perhaps not the most obvious destination for Hillary Clinton, who came within a few thousand strategically placed votes of winning the presidency of the United States of America last year.
Regrettably Clinton has not been booked to join a festival preview night, so her views on next year's Gold Cup are likely to remain private.
Instead, the former First Lady is talking about her new memoir, What Happened, which apparently "gives a no-holds-barred account of the experience of becoming the first woman nominated for president by a major party in an election marked by rage, sexism, exhilarating highs and infuriating lows".
Sounds a bit like The Dikler's last Cheltenham Festival.

Handbags at dawn
The Dikler has never been one to leave things be, and fortunately just when you thought the Davy Russell saga was cooling down a new chapter has emerged.
Having showcased his pugilistic qualities, Russell has been challenged to a bout in Las Vegas by former UFC champion Dan Hardy – much like Conor McGregor v Floyd Mayweather.
It took some time to agree on the terms, but after Russell tweeted: “Well it has to be Las Vegas 50-50, none of that 70-30,” things are starting to take shape, probably.
Both have taken well to the pre-match trash talk, with Russell saying: “Hold his coat, I’ve gone through bigger lads to see a fight.”
“Four days' suspension?” Hardy shot back. “I think four minutes in a cage with me would be better punishment.”
Given the reaction to the incident, many might agree.
