The information released by the Racecourse Association (RCA) is its latest attempt to lance a boil that has damaged relations between British racing's participants and its tracks for many years.

The Horsemen's Group (HG) has long been frustrated by what it regards as a lack of transparency over just how much income racecourses make from media rights payments and where that money goes, the strong suspicion being it does not receive a fair share through prize-money.

Prize-money agreements signed by the HG and racecourses, which were brokered by the BHA in 2013, helped calm the tensions caused by the controversial tariff system. However, those suspicions have never gone away and have been bubbling up for some time.
