Top milers Palace Pier and Poetic Flare neck and neck in Cartier standings
There was a neck between the pair at Deauville but nothing separates Poetic Flare and his Prix Jacques le Marois conqueror Palace Pier in the race to be crowned Cartier Horse of the Year.
Both outstanding milers are on 144 points, 24 clear of Mother Earth and Snowfall following their latest Group 1 wins at Deauville and York this month. They are joint-top of the Three-Year-Old Filly category.
St Mark's Basilica (112) is fifth in the Horse of the Year standings, closely followed by Juddmonte International hero Mishriff (108).
The two-year-olds have joined the party for the latest standings with Richard Fahey's thrilling Prix Morny winner Perfect Power heading the Two-Year-Old Colt standings on 48 points.
Richmond Stakes winner Asymmetric was a length and three-quarters behind Perfect Power at Deauville and is once again in the chasing pack alongside the Hugo Palmer-trained Phoenix Stakes scorer Ebro River and the Richard Hannon-trained Lusail, who won the Gimcrack at York last Friday.
The Al Shaqab-owned pair are joined by Group 2 Railway Stakes scorer Go Bears Go, who completes the four-way tie for second on 32 points.
In the fillies' equivalent Sandrine leads the the way on 32 points despite losing her unbeaten record to Zain Claudette in the Lowther Stakes. The Ismail Mohammed-trained filly is joined by Debutante Stakes heroine Agartha on 24 points.
