Robbie Power: 'It's a big step up into open company - he's only had two starts over hurdles in his life - but he's a horse we like a lot.'

Robbie Power has described himself as "raring to go" ahead of a return to the saddle at Fairyhouse this weekend.

The multiple Cheltenham Festival and Grand National-winning rider hasn't been seen since fracturing a hip when unseated from Hans Gruber at Tramore in October, and is hoping to put a frustrating run of injuries behind him.

Power said: "The plan is to ride this weekend, on Monday at Punchestown, then on to the Dublin Racing Festival. It's been a very frustrating time, but hopefully we can put it all behind us and get a clear run at the rest of the season."

Injury has plagued Power in recent seasons. He partnered 33 winners in Ireland from 243 rides in the 2019-20 season but is 29-218 in the last two seasons and has had just 37 rides domestically this season.

However, one of the most senior and decorated riders in the jumps weighing room pointed to there being plenty to play for before the end of the season and outlined his ambition to be aiming for big-race glory.

He said: "There's loads to look forward to and I'm looking forward to getting back and working hard; there's plenty of the season left."

Power added: "I fractured my hip. Nine times out ten, that injury requires surgery, but thankfully mine didn't need to be operated on. I was on crutches for eight weeks and thankfully everything is back to normal. I've been riding out for ten days and I'm feeling great. I'm raring to go."
