Top amateur jump jockey Peter Brookshaw dies at 92

Former leading amateur rider Peter Brookshaw, part of a jump racing dynasty, has died at the age of 92.

Unlike his champion jump jockey brother Tim Brookshaw he never turned professional but enjoyed plenty of success in point-to-points and hunter chases in the 1950s and won the Aintree Foxhunters' Chase in 1950 on Hillmere.

His sons Peter and Steve Brookshaw were successful amateur riders. Steve trained Lord Gyllene to win the Grand National in 1997 and grandson Richard Burton was a prolific rider in point-to-points and hunter chases.

Funeral details have yet to be announced.
