The six jockeys and trainers who could enjoy a Royal Ascot breakthrough

With thousands watching on the racecourse and from home, Royal Ascot presents a brilliant opportunity for jockeys and trainers to hit the headlines.

Last year, wins at the meeting for Tom Marquand and Hollie Doyle kicked off phenomenal seasons for both. So, who could make a big splash at the meeting this time around?

Jockeys

Jack Mitchell

Jack Mitchell is enjoying a fine campaign and his 53 victories are the eighth most of any Flat jockey this year. He has had only one Ascot winner from his 34 rides at the track and could enjoy another with Britannia Stakes-bound Raadobarg.

The Roger Varian-trained three-year-old has been in excellent form this season, winning in good style at Leicester, Thirsk and then in a good handicap at Haydock. The stable also won the Britannia last season so it is no surprise that bookmakers think Raadobarg is the one to beat.

Also on Thursday, Mitchell will partner Jack's Point who looks an interesting outsider in the Buckingham Palace Stakes.

Cieren Fallon

This week Fallon hit the 150-winner milestone but this talented young rider has a long way to go to beat the tally of his legendary father Kieren, who recorded 2,578 during a stellar career, including 30 successes at this meeting.

Fallon could start the week on a high with Oxted in the King's Stand Stakes, with the Roger Teal-trained runner one of the chief challengers to sprinting star Battaash.

The champion apprentice also partners Michael Bell-trained The Lir Jet in the Commonwealth Cup. He may have a bit to find on ratings, but does possess course form having won the Norfolk at the royal meeting last year.

Mark Crehan

The emergence of Mark Crehan has been one of the stories of the season. He rode one winner last year but has increased that to 33 so far this season.

His book of rides is not too busy but he appears to have two nice chances of breaking his Ascot duck. Corvair, who runs in the Buckingham Palace Stakes, comes here having ran a blinder at 66-1 at Newmarket last time.

Meanwhile, Britannia Stakes contender Legal Attack has been consistent this season and has a decent each-way chance at a big price.

Trainers

George Boughey

In only his third season as a trainer, George Boughey is heading to the royal meeting with one of the strongest teams from any stable.

He has almost doubled his number of winners from last year in a fine campaign for the young Newmarket-based handler and his two-year-old runners have been particularly outstanding.

Talented juveniles form the core of his Ascot team, with Cachet and Oscula (Albany), Superior Force (Windsor Castle) and Beautiful Sunshine (Queen Mary) looking the stand-outs.

The lightly raced Lostwithiel looks a live contender in the Ascot Stakes and Air To Air is one to look out for in the Britannia Stakes.

David Loughnane

David Loughnane got close to a Royal Ascot breakthrough last season when 100-1 shot Caroline Dale finished third in the Queen Mary. He has a few leading chances of going two places better, chiefly with two-year-old colt Go Bears Go.

The son of Kodi Bear was a length and a half winner on his debut and is poised to line up as a key contender in the Norfolk Stakes.

David Loughnane: seeking a first winner at Royal Ascot

Loughnane also has two good darts to throw in the Kensington Palace Stakes with Lola Showgirl and Ffion. The pair are lightly raced but have shown a fair level of ability and warrant plenty of respect off low weights.

Adrian McGuinness

This Irish trainer has had only four runners at Ascot throughout his career, but he is set to be well represented next week, particularly in the Group 1 sprints.

A Case Of You is a really interesting runner in the Commonwealth Cup having won at Group 3 level as both a two- and three-year-old. He is a live contender on the form of his latest success at Naas.

Harry's Bar comes to Ascot off the back of a good second in a Listed contest at Naas and is entered in the King's Stand, Diamond Jubilee and Wokingham.

Bowerman would be an interesting runner in the Royal Hunt Cup considering he was a Group 3 winner last season.
