Was it a big day?

Any meeting at Listowel is normally a big day because the track hosts only ten a year. While the weather did not play too much ball, numbers were solid at the gate as the track hosted its first jumps card of the season, with more in attendance than the previous two days.

How much was entry on the gate?

€15 for an adult, €10 for OAPs and students.

Other than restaurants/hospitality, what were the food and beverage options?

Although many of the facilities were not in operation, there were still plenty of places to quench your thirst and fill your stomach.

There are many vantage points to take in the action and lots of space out the back of the main stand, where there is the Rebel Burger Co and Mahers Coffee just outside the Old Weir Food Hall.

With the drizzle constantly lurking, the comfort and dryness of the Old Weir Food Hall seemed more appealing, and it looked a quiet day for Mr Whippy's ice cream van.

A bowl of soup set you back €5.50 while a plate of bacon and cabbage cost €15.50, and that seemed a popular selection among locals.

Although the comfort inside seemed the more logical option, I was taken by the look of the 'Rebel Burger' in the Rebel Burger Co van, and this got my vote. It was a potential Group 1 performer.

Under the main stand is the public bar with plenty of draught, spirits and wine to tickle your fancy.

However, champagne could be purchased only inside the Owners & Trainers bar to the rear of the parade ring, which was disappointing for some on their day out wanting to celebrate winners.

What's the damage?

Bottle of water: €3
Cheapest pint: Guinness, €5.80
Guinness: €5.80
Burger: A beef burger meal in Old Weir's Food Hall set you back €15.50, while a beef burger from the Rebel Burger Co was €7, with their speciality an extra 60 cents

What was the burger like?

Stupendous. A beautifully balanced patty with lettuce, tomato, onion and sauce underneath, and a lovely slice of black pudding on top. Succulent.

Queues?

There was a nice crowd, and plenty of staff on hand to deal with it, and queues were few.
