The Ebor festival 2020: all you need to know for York's showpiece meeting
When is it, where is it, and who should you back?
York's Ebor festival is a four-day meeting that hosts the Group 1 Juddmonte International and Darley Yorkshire Oaks alongside the Sky Bet Ebor Handicap.
Held from Wednesday, August 19 to Saturday, August 22 at York racecourse, a number of world-class horses, riders and trainers will descend upon the Knavesmire.
The Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes is another unmissable top-level contest, with last year's explosive winner Battaash taking on Art Power and Wesley Ward's Golden Pal.
The racing will be shown on ITV and Racing TV, while you can also stream and bet on the races on the Racing Post website and mobile app.
What is the Ebor festival and why is it so important?
The Ebor festival is a mid-season bonanza that is held in late August. It has long been recognised as a meeting where the best horses clash and also as a preparation for big-race targets in the autumn.
Who is running?
Runaway Qipco 1,000 Guineas and Investec Oaks heroine Love will be a hot favourite for the Yorkshire Oaks on Thursday following Enable's defection to Kempton. John Gosden could yet be represented by last year's Irish Oaks winner Star Catcher.
The Juddmonte International looks set to be a thriller with Coronation Cup and Coral-Eclipse scorer Ghaiyyath clashing with 2,000 Guineas hero Kameko. Other classy performers in the mix include Prince of Wales's ace Lord North and last year's winner Japan.
Which horses have won at the meeting?
Some of the all-time greats have won at this festival. Frankel's demolition in the 2012 Juddmonte International will go down as one of the greatest moments in the racecourse's history. Other champions to have won the prestigious 1m2½f contest include Sea The Stars, Giant's Causeway and Halling.
More recently, Enable has twice won the Yorkshire Oaks in excellent fashion, while the Nunthorpe's roll of honour includes the phenomenal Dayjur, Khalid Abdullah's star Oasis Dream and the aforementioned Battaash.
