'That display suggested she was the 1,000 Guineas winner in waiting'
David Jennings with five to follow as the Flat turf season kicks off in Ireland
It seems like only yesterday we were waxing lyrical about Rachael Blackmore and Henry de Bromhead; actually, it was only yesterday. The Irish Flat turf season starts less than 48 hours after the Cheltenham Festival drew to a close so the transitional phase is shorter than ever. Here are five horses who showed promise last season and could be worth following for the next few months
Pretty Gorgeous (Joseph O'Brien)
Made an unconventional start to career when winning a Bellewstown maiden and did nothing but improve afterwards. The power she showed in the Fillies' Mile suggested she was the 1,000 Guineas winner in waiting, and there is nothing wrong with her current price of 8-1.
Dreal Deal (Ronan McNally)
Will no doubt have the spring festivals on his agenda, but when he returns to the Flat he will be on a tasty handicap mark of 78. A Grade 2-winning hurdler with a jumps mark of 145, expect the shrewd Ronan McNally to plot a lucrative Flat campaign.
Mirann (Johnny Murtagh)
Dropping down to a mile for the Irish Lincoln might not show him in his best light but he certainly gives the impression he could be considerably more talented than his current mark of 99. There is surely a big 1m4f or 1m6f handicap within his grasp and he could even be an Ebor candidate.
Cleveland (Aidan O'Brien)
Camelot colt was all at sea on Galway debut and looked clueless and lazy next time at Tipperary. It was a case of third time lucky at the Curragh where he burst clear to win by four lengths. He's entered in the Derby and it would be no surprise to see him take a Classic trial.
Cadillac(Jessica Harrington)
Explosive winner by nine lengths of a Leopardstown maiden which has worked out well. He was much too good for Van Gogh in a Grade 2 back at the track in September and nothing went right in the Dewhurst or the Juvenile Turf. An exciting three-year-old campaign could be in store.
