Popular Scottish-trained performer Euchen Glen will be on his travels in search of another big-race prize south of the border once more, with trainer Jim Goldie confirming his stable star will head to the Qatar Goodwood Festival at the end of the month.

The eight-year-old – a winner of the John Smith's Cup and a trio of Group 3s – has been brilliant again this season, winning the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown in May before bouncing back to winning ways at the Esher track in the Gala Stakes last time.

A possible tilt at the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes was mulled over by connections before his latest Sandown success, but instead the son of Authorized will head to the South Downs for the Group 3 Glorious Stakes on July 30. He was fifth in the Goodwood Cup last year.

Goldie said: "He's come out of Sandown well and we're heading to Goodwood again. He went for the two-miler [Goodwood Cup] last year but we're heading for the mile and a half race this time.

"It'll be good to go there, it's a great meeting and it'll be lovely to see the crowds back when he's there."

Euchen Glen has amassed over £427,000 in prize-money in 39 starts from Goldie's yard near Glasgow in Renfrewshire and his long-travelling excursions has seen his fanbase grow either side of the border.

The trainer is relishing his admirers being on track in full again following the government's confirmation of easing lockdown restrictions in England on July 19.

"He's a superstar as we all know and he seems to like the southern climate. He takes his travelling so well which is a massive help," Goldie added.

"He's a superb horse. It's great for racing to have horses like him. Scotland hasn't got much to shout about at the moment and while I feel a wee bit sorry for England [losing to Italy in the Euro 2020 Final], it's fantastic to have a Scottish star."
