Sprint ace Go Bears Go set to lead strong Dave Loughnane team at Royal Ascot
Go Bears Go threw away his chance at the start last time but will attempt to bounce back from his defeat at Haydock when lining up in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot next Friday.
The three-year-old stumbled when leaving the stalls in the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes last month and finished fourth under Rossa Ryan, rallying well to get within two and three-quarter lengths of the winner El Caballo.
Go Bears Go was pushed out in the market for the Commonwealth Cup, for which he is available at 9-1 generally behind only El Caballo and ante-post favourite Perfect Power, the Greenham Stakes winner.
The son of Kodi Bear has won twice from three starts at Ascot, including when winning the Group 3 Pavilion Stakes in April, and missed out by a head to Perfect Power in last year's Norfolk Stakes.
"He just buckled and went down on his nose straight out of the gates last time and did well to finish fourth," said trainer Dave Loughnane. "You can't expect to win any race doing that and it was over for him.
"I couldn't be happier with him heading into Royal Ascot. His record at the track is very good, with two wins and a very close second."
Loughnane, who won last year's Kensington Palace Stakes with Lola Showgirl, is preparing a strong team for this year's meeting, which could include Albany hopeful Queen Olly and recent winner Carmela.
He may also target the meeting with Amo Racing's Walbank, an impressive winner at York who will be entered in the Norfolk and Windsor Castle Stakes, and Queen Mary Stakes hopeful Omniqueen.
"We had four runners last season so to potentially be going there with double that, and with a few of them in the first five or six in the early betting, is a lovely position for us to be in," he added.
Ascot has reported healthy ticket sales on Monday ahead of next week's meeting. The track announced reduced capacities this year, which has contributed to the Queen Anne enclosure selling out for the Thursday. The Queen Anne, Village and Windsor enclosures are sold out on the final day of the meeting on Saturday, June 18.
