Emitom has 'the world at his feet' after dominant Rendlesham Hurdle victory

Emitom showed why he was so highly regarded by connections last term when producing a sparkling display in the Grade 2 Rendlesham Hurdle at Haydock.

The Warren Greatrex-trained six-year-old, who disappointed behind Summerville Boy at Cheltenham last time, jumped better this time and turned the home bend travelling best of all.

Greatrex said: "He had that blip at Cheltenham and it was trainer error as I under-trained him. He's always behind the bridle and hits a few flat spots, but when you want to him to go he does, and Gavin [Sheehan] said he's won on the bridle pretty much.

"He's only six and has got the world at his feet. I'll speak to the owner, but he's in the Stayers' picture now. To beat Paisley Park is a tall order, but he's an up-and-coming horse."

Betfair Sportsbook cut Emitom to 12-1 (from 50) for the Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham. Paddy Power went 10 (from 25) for the same contest.

The Worlds End, winner of the Grade 1 Marsh Hurdle on his last start, faded badly in the home straight.

Impressive Sporting John cut for Cheltenham novice hurdles after Ascot victory

Sporting John made it three from three over hurdles with an impressive success in the opening novice hurdle at Ascot on Saturday.

The five-year-old travelled ominously well under Barry Geraghty behind the front-running Master Debonair and the 6-4 second-favourite found plenty to score by six and a half lengths from the plugging-on Pipesmoker.

Paddy Power cut McManus's runner to 12-1 (from 16) for the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle, while Betfair Sportsbook shortened him to 12-1 (from 20) for the same race. He is now 10-1 (from 16) for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle with the race sponsors Sky Bet.

Hobbs said: "Barry thinks he has enough pace for two miles but he obviously stays two and a half and we can do whatever we like with him. Cheltenham is the obvious place to go.

"I'm probably thinking two and a half [for the Ballymore] but he could go the other way and it depends what else JP [McManus] has. He's probably going to be better over fences and that's something to look forward to."

Master Debonair, sent off the 5-4 favourite, put in some spring-heeled leaps at the front but faded rapidly in the home straight to finish a well-beaten third of four runners.

Cilaos Emery books Champion Hurdle spot with Gowran win

Cilaos Emery was cut for the Unibet Champion Hurdle with a smooth success in the Grade 3 Red Mills Trial Hurdle at Gowran, and is now likely to be supplemented for next's month Grade 1 at Cheltenham.

The Willie Mullins-trained eight-year-old, who fell at the first fence in the Dublin Chase last time, was sent off the 4-7 favourite and landed the odds accordingly.

Paddy Power cut Cilaos Emery to 6-1 (from 7) for next month's Champion Hurdle, and Mullins said: "Cilaos Emery was very impressive in what he did there, especially after a mistake three out. It's hard to be impressive in that ground and those conditions and he was. I imagine he will got for the Champion Hurdle now.

"The plan was to run him here and see how he got on, and that would decide where we go with him. The feeling is that he would have a better chance of being thereabouts in the Champion Hurdle than the Champion Chase."
