'Special filly' Snow Lantern to miss Guineas for York says Richard Hannon

Richard Hannon has confirmed impressive Newbury winner Snow Lantern will not run in the Qipco 1,000 Guineas next week.

The three-year-old filly shed her maiden tag in style at Newbury on Sunday and was promptly cut by bookmakers into as short as 7-1 for the fillies' Classic at Newmarket on May 2.

However, Hannon released a statement that the daughter of Frankel would not try to emulate her dam Sky Lantern, winner of the 1,000 Guineas in 2013, and would instead be aimed at one of two targets at York next month.

Hannon said: "Following discussions with connections, Snow Lantern will not be taking up her engagement in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket and will instead be aimed for either the Group 3 Musidora Stakes or the Listed Michael Seeley Stakes at York's May meeting.

"Both of these races give us options and an extra couple of weeks, with the Michael Seeley being run over a mile and the Musidora over a mile and a quarter.

"Either of these races will give us a good guide on where we stand for the rest of the season with her. She also holds entries in the Cazoo Oaks and Prix de Diane and these engagements will be dependent on her York performance.

"There are plenty of options coming up for her. She is a special filly, with a beautiful pedigree and has already proved an exciting prospect for her owner-breeders Rockcliffe Stud."

The once-raced Santa Barbara has been well backed into 6-4 in recent weeks to give Aidan O'Brien a seventh win in the 1,000 Guineas, with Fillies' Mile winner Pretty Gorgeous and narrow Fred Darling victor Alcohol Free next best in the market.
