Simon Crisford moves across Newmarket into prestigious Gainsborough Stables

The prestigious Gainsborough Stables in Newmarket is to be used as a training yard for the first time in more than a decade with Simon Crisford planning to lease the state-of-the-art Hamilton Road property.

The 99-box facility was a part of the Darley pre-training enterprise after Ed Dunlop moved out in 2009, but has been little used since Darley restructured their operation a year ago.

The relocation will be a third Newmarket move in four years for Crisford, who started out at Carlburg Stables on the Bury Road before taking out a lease on his current base at Kremlin House on the Fordham Road.

The late Alex Scott first trained from Gainsborough Stables, from where he prepared champion sprinter Sheikh Albadou to win at the Breeders' Cup in 1991. Later, Ed Dunlop trained the great Ouija Board from the site to win seven times at Group 1 level, including the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf in 2004 and 2006.

Crisford said: "I'm planning to move across Newmarket to Racecourse Side in the coming weeks, where I will be leasing Gainsborough Stables from Darley.

"I would like to thank Gay Jarvis for allowing us to rent Kremlin House when we needed somewhere after Carlburg. We've had a wonderful time at the historic and beautiful yard and had lots of success."

He added: "Gainsborough Stables had become surplus to requirements for the Darley pre-training organisation and this is a great opportunity for my horses, my owners and staff.

"I'm very excited about moving over there and to my mind the grass gallops on Racecourse Side are the best in the world. We're very familiar with the facilities over there as we've been using them for the past two seasons and we're looking forward to the next chapter."

The facilities on Racecourse Side cover 1,200 acres and include a range of grass gallops plus the only watered gallop in Newmarket. On top of that, Crisford will have easy access to the Cambridge Road Polytrack which, at a mile and a quarter, is the longest all-weather facility in town.
