Shropshire Star's Andy Morris celebrates his first naps table success
Andy Morris, tipster for the Shropshire Star, has been crowned naps champion for the 2020-21 season in the Racing Post/Coral-backed competition.
Morris, 35, finished with a whopping profit of £72.92 to a £1 level stake, which elevated him an impressive £40.78 clear of runner-up Melissa Jones, tipping for Mirror Online.
The champion tipster celebrated his success on Thursday night by drinking champagne until 1am, but he was back up just a few hours later trying to find his next winner.
Morris, who dedicated the title to his wife Emma and four daughters, Sky, Olivia, Alice and Ada, said: “I still can’t quite believe it. I’ve been in the competition for about five years and the best I’ve finished prior to this is 12th or 13th.
“I made a good start to the season, and have been in profit for the entire time. A 12-1 winner at Ascot in February was the springboard, and then a 33-1 winner at Cheltenham, Heaven Help Us in the Coral Cup, gave me a huge cushion.”
Partly due to family commitments, Morris, who is a big fan of Racing Post tipster Paul Kealy, has changed the time that he devotes to form study, and it paid off in spectacular style.
“I’ve been getting up at 4am to do my studying and to watch race replays, and it seems that my brain works better at that time of day,” he said. “I have worked hard, and to win this competition is a fantastic reward.”
As well as bragging rights, Morris, who capped his memorable campaign by tipping the 8-1 winner of the Scottish National, Mighty Thunder, wins a £4,000 first prize which he hopes to use to take his family on holiday next summer.
He added: “I’d love to get back to Las Vegas some time too –if Emma will allow me to go!”
