'She owes us absolutely nothing' - 1,000 Guineas winner Mother Earth retired

Classic winner Mother Earth has been retired to Coolmore after disappointing at Royal Ascot last week.

Last year's Qipco 1,000 Guineas heroine under Frankie Dettori only managed to beat one home in the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes and Aidan O'Brien has revealed that it was her last racecourse appearance.

O'Brien told the Racing Post: "Mother Earth has been retired. When she came back from Ascot she went to Coolmore the next day."

The master trainer added: "She was a great filly. She raced a lot at two and three. We couldn't really ask her to do much more. She was a Classic winner and a dual Group 1 winner and she was a very good filly on her day. She owes us absolutely nothing."

Mother Earth, a daughter of Zoffany, won four of her 21 starts and was placed in 11 others during a consistent career. Her finest hour arrived in last year's 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket when she stayed on strongly under Dettori to beat Saffron Beach by a length.

She was placed in the French 1,000 Guineas, Coronation Stakes and Falmouth Stakes afterwards before winning her second Group 1 in the Prix Rothschild at Deauville under Ryan Moore.

Mother Earth began her four-year-old campaign with victory in the Group 3 Park Express Stakes at the Curragh but was no match for Baaeed in the Lockinge and then trailed in sixth of seven in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes when wearing cheekpieces for the first time.

She was rated 114 at her peak and earned over £1 million in prize-money.
