'She looks made for it' - Gordon Elliott reveals his big Galway Hurdle hope

Gordon Elliott: 'We have come a long way in 12 months and I'm very happy with how the rebuilding process is going.”

The Guinness Galway Hurdle has eluded Gordon Elliott up until now but the trainer thinks Party Central might have what it takes to get his name on the roll of honour next Thursday (5.05).

Elliott was responsible for the runner-up in 2012, 2013 and 2014 with Cause Of Causes going closest ten years ago when flying home to get within a head of Rebel Fitz. He expects to have four runners in an attempt to open his account and believes Party Central to be the best of the quartet.

Party Central is a 12-1 shot with most firms and was last seen winning a Listed mares' novice hurdle at the Punchestown festival in April. Felix Desjy, who was sent off favourite in 2020 but came down at the second, will join her in the line-up along with Vina Ardanza and The Tide Turns.

Elliott said: "I will probably run four in the Galway Hurdle. Party Central and Felix Desjy will definitely run and I'd say Vina Ardenza and The Tide Turns will turn up as well.

"Party Central might be the best of mine. She looks made for the race. She's a strong-travelling mare who likes to come off a fast pace and that's what she's going to get here. You'd hope she has a great chance.

"Felix Desjy was favourite for the race a few years ago but fell early. It was great to see him getting his head in front again at Punchestown and he's a very good horse on his day."

Elliott might not have won the Galway Hurdle yet, but he has won the Tote-backed Plate three times since 2016 and will either run two or three, depending on whether Ash Tree Meadow gets a late call-up after his recent Killarney win.

On his Plate team, Elliott said: "Hurricane Georgie definitely runs and I'd say Jack [Kennedy] will ride her. She's won her last three and, while it might not have been the greatest Midlands National ever run, she still won it nicely at Kilbeggan and she's improving all the time. Battleoverdoyen will run too.

"I'm not sure whether Ash Tree Meadow will run or not. We'll decide nearer the time. He only won the other day at Killarney and it might be a bit much to throw him into a Galway Plate. He's a very nice horse, though, and one to look forward to."
