Shadwell may race only homebreds in 2022 as leading team lays low at sales

Shadwell Estates, the racing and breeding operation of the late Hamdan Al Maktoum, has been notable by its absence from the Tattersalls October Book 1 sales and racing manager Angus Gold on Thursday revealed the operation intends to exclusively race its own homebred stock in 2022 and beyond.

Last month the organisation confirmed it would significantly contract in numbers globally with plans to sell a "substantial" volume of its stock, and at Europe's premier bloodstock sale Gold made clear it would not be acquiring any new talent either.

Speaking at Tattersalls on Thursday, he said: "We're selling not buying at the moment and we haven't bought one horse yet, although that may change. It may well be that the two-year-olds we have in training next year are homebreds from our own studs."
