Funeral details announced for Triumph Hurdle-winning jockey Steve Jobar
The funeral of former jockey Steve Jobar will take place at St Swithun's Church, Wickham, near Newbury, on Monday, December 2, at 1pm.
Jobar, winner of the 1980 Triumph Hurdle aboard Heighlin, died this month after living bravely with motor neurone disease for a long period of time.
No flowers are requested but donations to the Reading and West Berkshire branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association would be appreciated. These can be made here.
BHA appoints new CFO
Alan Switzer has been named as the new chief financial officer for the BHA, a role he has held in an interim capacity since August, and will join the regulator's executive team.
During several years working with the BHA, Switzer has overseen a "comprehensive review of the organisation's structure and operational functions, and more recently supporting the delivery of British racing's industry strategy".
Switzer worked for Deloitte for more than 25 years as part of the company's Sports Business Group and during the pandemic was seconded to Sport England, where he helped to establish and manage the British government's Sports Survival Fund.
"British racing’s financial challenges are well documented, with the sport facing significant headwinds and not always best served by the fragmented and complex nature of our funding model," said Switzer.
"However, these problems are far from insurmountable, especially if we can commit to working collectively in the long-term interests of the sport. As someone who wants to see racing not only survive, but thrive, I look forward to playing my part to support the sport we all love.”
