Bastiman says she and her team are fine following horsebox collision

Trainer Rebecca Bastiman on Sunday said that she and those she was travelling with were fine following an accident last Friday, when a motorcyclist apparently crashed into the back of her horsebox.

The injured man was attended to at the scene by a nurse on her way to work and then airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary where he was treated for broken ribs and a bleed on the chest.

Bastiman, who had been travelling to York when the accident occurred, also spoke of the condition of intended runner that day Indian Chief, who had to be cut free from the horsebox by the fire brigade.

She said: "Everybody involved in the accident is fine, including the horse, who was cantering yesterday."

Community celebration at Aintree

The Aintree Community Programme celebrated its long-standing partnership with Everton FC on Monday by showcasing three joint charity programmes – Riding for Disabled, Dementia 'Passing on the Memories' Grand National Tours, and Military Veterans.

Approximately 20 local children with varying disabilities were given the opportunity to ride horses around the iconic Aintree parade ring for the first time.

Everton ambassador Graham Stuart said: "Horseriding isn't for me but it's a great event at probably the most famous racetrack in the country.

"The kids have the opportunity to get on a horse and have a ride around. They had a great time and it's just a fantastic day for them."

A group of ex-servicemen and women, as well as people from the 'Passing on the Memories' Dementia Group, were also invited for lunch with Aintree's historian Jane Clarke and a Grand National tour, offering them an important chance to reminisce.

Golf day in aid of George Baker

CharlieMann is hosting a golf day in honour of Classic-winning jockey George Baker, who was forced to retire last year after a suffering career-ending injury in a fall in Switzerland.

The event will take place a week on Monday at Calcot Park Golf Club near Reading.

Power hoping to be back for Galway

Gold Cup and Grand National-winning jockey Robbie Power expects to resume raceriding in time for the Galway festival at the end of next month after undergoing surgery on an old shoulder injury.

Power brought his tally for the season to ten at Punchestown on Wednesday when scoring on 33-1 shot Jack Fiasco for Jessica Harrington.

The rider revealed on Saturday: "I had my shoulder operated on yesterday to sort out an ongoing injury. The operation went well and I'm hoping to be back in action in five or six weeks, just in time for Galway."

Trust's record £5m pledge to Alzheimer's research

The Newmarket-based Alborada Trust has pledged £5 million to national charity Alzheimer’s Research UK to support five years of pioneering drug discovery research through the Alborada Drug Discovery Institute at the University of Cambridge.

The pledge is the largest commitment ever made by the Trust and the largest received by the Cambridgeshire-based charity.

The Alzheimer’s Research UK Drug Discovery Alliance was launched in 2015 with an ambition to accelerate the search for life-changing dementia treatments.

The Alborada Trust was established by Lanwades Stud owner Kirsten Rausing and funds medical research and veterinary causes worldwide, as well as projects in education and disaster relief.

Jeremy Richardson, secretary to the Alborada Trust, said: "We are proud to support Alzheimer's Research UK through the Alborada Drug Discovery Institute and believe this commitment will accelerate the development for new dementia treatments.

"It is only through biomedical research that progress will be made to help the millions of people worldwide affected by these devastating diseases."
