Wonderful Tonight sails on but which French jockey will get the Arc call-up?
Passing the time by Goodwood's weighing room at just after 2pm was a Frenchman in a blue raincoat, looking like someone who did not have a leading Arc fancy about to defend odds-on favouritism in the fourth race.
You might have thought David Menuisier was without a care in the world. What he definitely does have is one of the world's best fillies. He also had runners in the handicaps either side of the Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes, yet with due respect to those horses, the star of Menuisier's increasingly impressive string is Wonderful Tonight. Her trainer is increasingly impressive as well.
Menuisier is also smart and affable but not nervous. As the clock ticked down to the latest appearance of the runaway Hardwicke Stakes winner, he pointed out there had also been no nerves that day, partly because he was not expecting to win.
