'Why not go for the Lockinge?' - Chindit team eye big prizes after return win
Saturday: Doncaster
Nobody made a better start to the turf Flat season than Rossa Ryan, who rode a treble from his first three mounts.
Highlight was the return success of the Ricard Hannon-trained Chindit, who had looked high class when landing the Champagne Stakes as a two-year-old here in 2020.
Though successful in the Greenham at Newbury last spring, he did not win again for the rest of the season, and did well to land the Listed Doncaster Mile here after pulling for his head early on.
"He's done that with class more than anything," Ryan said. "He's just fresh, but he's a class act to pull as hard as he did and to get to the front and idle and still put the race to bed.
"I like to think he wants fast ground and it's very gluey out there, he really did hate it. When he got to the front he held a bit back which shows he's minding himself.
"If he comes forward again, hopefully a big one can fall in for him and we see the Chindit we saw as a two-year-old."
The Lockinge could be an option according to Hannon's senior head lad Tony Gorman, who said: "He's a lovely horse and ran some super races last year – he was up there at the top level. Why not go for the Lockinge?"
Ryan started the day with victory on Persian Force in the Brocklesby Stakes, and he doubled his tally with success on Arthur's Realm for Ed Dunlop in the Spring Mile.
"The race fell lovely for me," Ryan said. "He travelled well and they went a nice gallop.
"Ed was a bit wary of the ground, but as the racing has gone on they've got into it, it's a bit holding and it suited him."
'Fiery' Analyst scores first Listed win
Volatile Analyst may live up to his name, but that has not stopped the "fiery character" make his way through the sprint ranks, and he continued his upward progress with a fighting success in the 6f Cammidge Trophy.
Last year's Coral Sprint Trophy winner, who scored over 7f in handicap company at Wolverhampton in January, got the better of Diligent Harry to land his first Listed victory for Keith Dalgleish.
"He's such a talented horse," said jockey Callum Rodriguez. "He's won a couple of good ones now and it's nice that he's done it at this level because we've always held him in high regard. Hopefully he can have a good year.
"He's a bit of a fiery character and he wants to get on with it. He gets a bit warm, but it certainly doesn't slow him down. I was always pretty confident through the race, he got into a lovely rhythm and I know that he stays the extra furlong.
"The further he went through the race, the better he was getting. I always felt like I was getting on top. He's really coming into himself and if he can keep on going like that, hopefully there might just be a big one in him."
