Where is the value for the Gold Cup after the King George and Savills Chase?

'The 10-1 about Minella Indo looks big'

Proven Cheltenham form is the first thing to look for when you're betting on the festival and on that basis the 10-1 about Minella Indo looks big.

I can't imagine that the previous season's Gold Cup winner would usually be available at double-figure odds for a repeat by the middle of the next season.

Yes, he's started the term with a couple of defeats but he wasn't exactly cleaning up on his way to the festival this year or in 2019, when he won the Albert Bartlett at 50-1.

Some of Henry de Bromhead's recent runners have been below their best but there's plenty of time for him to turn things around.

'He possesses all-important course form'

I would not be too quick to write off A Plus Tard after his narrow defeat at Leopardstown. He still feels like the most likely winner of the Gold Cup but he is a bit too short and the value is with Galvin at around 6-1.

He is going straight to the festival and possesses that all-important course form as a winner of the National Hunt Chase. There is clearly an emphasis on stamina as well as class in the Gold Cup and Galvin is a proven stayer.

At this stage, it is more likely we saw the Gold Cup winner at Leopardstown than in the King George.

King George expert jury: 'Gold Cup quotes of 14-1 are a little insulting given Tornado Flyer's profile'

'His Cheltenham form is too good not to like'

In less than 48 hours, the Gold Cup picture has gone from looking mouthwateringly good to rather like a damp squib, but I would remain on the side of Minella Indo despite his rare no-show in the King George.

As many expected beforehand, the speedier track at Kempton did not suit him whatsoever, and his effort was too bad to be true. However, where he does excel is around Cheltenham with form figures of 121 there – and he's unbeaten on the New course.

I suspect this season has been all about one race only and the Gold Cup test is what he relishes, unlike his stablemate. His course form is too good not to like.
